My Best Friend, Jonathan

I photographed my best friend, Jonathan, at Patrick Eagan Park in Eagan, MN. While photographing the landscape, I saw the sun behind Jonathan's head that casted a light around his shoulders and head. I used extreme depth of field to make Jonathan the obvious focus. I made the shot tight to his face to make it more intimate. The rule of 3rds was lightly used to keep his eyes and forehead in the upper third. To make the photograph more warm and light, I took down the color saturation.

My Best Friend, Jonathan

This photograph was taken with contrast and the rule of 3rds in mind. Although Jonathan and I are seated in the middle, the background is meant to be in the lower third with the sky taking the remaining 3rds. The high contrast was necessary to prevent my shirt from blending into the background.

My Best Friend, Jonathan

My best friend, Jonathan, and I were hiking near Taylors Falls. I decided to use the rule of 3rds and depth of field to show him photographing the landscape. Using those techniques I wanted to show the viewer the river, the camera, and Jonathan without making the background too important.

Favorite Des Moines Spot

I chose to use the rule of thirds, dark setting, and depth of field to focus the hot coals. The point of view I used shows the dish with ashes and the coals.

Favorite Des Moines Spot

I used depth of field to make the focus on the instrument for smoking hookah. The hose of the instrument leads to the person smoking in the background. I also used the rule of thirds to frame the shot and make it aesthetically pleasing.

The photograph has depth of field which isolates the smokers face from the background. I used the rule of thirds to show his head in the right third and the trail of smoke leading to the upper left third of the photo.

The Chicha Shack is a relaxing hang out spot for Drake students studying. In this photograph, I most enjoy the way the smoke flows up to the red color in the background.

Campus Life

At the Drake University Wind Symphony concert, the professional atmosphere helped create this photo. I framed the clarinetist according to the rule of thirds. Also, I decreased the exposure time to get a darker image with a lot of contrast.

Campus Life

The audience of this concert was unable to see many of the performers faces, which I felt was an interesting shot. I used the rule of thirds to frame the action of the clarinetist.

During the middle of the concert, an oboist was crafting her reeds. The moment seemed close and tight so I cropped the scene to reflect the atmosphere.
